Landlord tries to push through an illegal rent increase: how Silke from Berlin-Wilmersdorf cut the demand to €3

Silke's landlord wanted to raise her rent by more than ten per cent – €80 a month. She had CONNY check the increase. Within a short time the tenant portal secured a sharp reduction: her landlord now has to make do with a mere three euros more per month. Silke tells her story here.

What was your problem and how did you hear about CONNY?

My landlord wanted to raise the rent by more than ten per cent. That was €80. I found a letter from CONNY in my letterbox and tried the service, mainly because of the promise that I would only pay anything if the case succeeded.

What were your concerns before you instructed CONNY? Were you afraid of confronting your landlord, for example? What became of those fears?

My concern was whether CONNY was legitimate or a 'trap'. I looked up the tenant portal online and was convinced it was genuine.

Have you received a rent increase?
Do as Silke did. Check free of charge & without obligation whether the rent increase is permissible.

How did the process go for you, and how much rent were you able to save?

The initial check was very simple: I uploaded all the relevant documents via CONNY, without obligation, and filled in a questionnaire. Once it was clear the case had a good chance of success, I granted a power of attorney so CONNY could represent me. In the meantime I didn't hear much – CONNY runs the proceedings for me in the background. I was informed by email about anything important or whenever a decision was needed. Thanks to CONNY, my rent was raised by just under three euros – the amount the landlord was actually entitled to – instead of €80.

What is your conclusion from your experience with CONNY? What would you say to others in a similar situation?

My conclusion: I will have CONNY check every future rent increase from my landlord.
