Imagine this: your landlord steals €346 from you every month

Sara's (41) landlord charged far more rent than the law allows. To her, that behaviour is almost criminal: "Looked at that way, my landlord stole €346 from me every month - and I didn't even notice!"

How were we able to help you?

You helped me reduce my unlawfully high rent.

What was your problem, and how did you come across us?

My rent had always seemed quite high to me, but I didn't know what I could do about it. Then I saw a CONNY ad on Facebook, clicked on it and tried the calculator. It turned out my rent was more than €200 above what I should be paying. After that I spent quite a while deciding whether or not to enforce my claim.

Are you paying too much rent as well?
Then do what Sara did. Check now, free of charge and without obligation, how much rent you could save.

What were your concerns before you instructed us? Were you afraid of confronting your landlord, for example? What got you past your concerns, and what became of your fears?

I had several concerns. My biggest worry was how my landlord would react. Who knows how a large company responds to something like this. They surely have good lawyers too. I also hadn't heard of CONNY before, so I wasn't sure whether you were legitimate. I did some research and read reviews and customer stories. They often said it takes quite a long time, but many of your customers also reported that their rent was successfully reduced. To be sure, I then called and had the process explained to me. I was also told that it is simply my right to pay a fair rent. With the rent they were charging, my landlord was simply breaking the law. Looked at that way, my landlord stole €346 from me every month - and I didn't even notice! That thought convinced me to instruct CONNY.

How did the process go for you, and how much rent were you able to save?

I instructed CONNY, and then for a few weeks not much happened. I was told my claim had been registered with the landlord, but they barely responded. At some point CONNY announced it would file a lawsuit. Suddenly my landlord reacted, and we were able to agree on a rent reduction of €237.91. That was after about six months. During that time I didn't really have to do anything except sign a few documents.

What do you take away from your experience with us? What would you like to pass on to others in a similar situation?

I can only advise everyone to check their rent and, if it's too high, to reduce it. Just imagine your landlord stealing a pile of money from you every month without you noticing. Nobody should put up with that. And if there's a way to do something about it, you should use it.
